Ferries and express boats are vital for exploring Northern Norway and reaching the stunning destinations along the way. You can travel to the Lofoten Islands by ferry or express boat from either the north or south. Key routes are served by modern, gas-powered ferries, providing additional vehicle space and a comfortable voyage.
We recommend downloading the Reis app (available on App Store and Google Play) to simplify travel planning across Nordland, with access to schedules for ferries, buses, and express boats.
• Ferry to Moskenes: Ferries depart from Bodø to Moskenes, and advance booking is suggested, particularly during the busy summer season. For ferry schedules and ticket bookings, visit Torghatten’s website.
• Express Boat to Svolvær: For a faster option, the express boat from Bodø to Svolvær offers a direct route. Tickets can be booked in advance; visit Reis Nordland’s booking page for schedules and bookings.
• Hurtigruten to Stamsund: Traveling to Lofoten on the Hurtigruten is an unforgettable experience that combines transportation with breathtaking coastal scenery. Often called “The World’s Most Beautiful Sea Voyage,” Hurtigruten offers several boarding points along the Norwegian coast, allowing you to explore both small and large communities on your way to Lofoten.
